Irish Setter Pups & Youngsters
Puppies and youngsters are occasionally available when we are planning additions to the team. At the moment we are bringing on a couple of red pups for clients who want trained or part trained dogs. These pups are out of a litter sister of Field Trial Champion Lusca Finn, by Lusca Speedy Boy of Ardoon. Both sire and dam have the superb temperament that we consider so important coupled with good noses and stamina.

Although the dam has not been trialled extensively, partly due to the disruptions resulting from the recent Foot and Mouth epidemic, she is probably the most stylish dog in the kennel when handling game and an obvious choice for our breeding programme. The pups are now about 12 months old and have clearly inherited the parents' gentle temperaments as well as that wonderful joy of life so typical of the best red dogs. They are all responding to voice, hand and whistle commands and have settled into a nice quartering pattern running with plenty of power and drive. The next stage will be the introduction to game which will begin over the next few weeks, so lots still to do but coming on quite nicely.
English Setter Pups
We also have a litter from Field Trial Champion Molly Iken. We thought very carefully about which dog to put over her in order to maximize the qualities that we liked without introducing something we didn't. In the end we have chosen a dog that has very similar breeding to Molly and has her same superb temperament and working abilities.
The pups are now ten weeks old and we are really very pleased with them. They are a very close litter, very similar in size and appearance and all have lovely confidant personalities combined with a great delight to be with you. They are already showing strong signs of their hunting potential since they have been 'setting each other since they were about 7/8 weeks old. Two of the litter have already gone to the States where within half an hour of their arrival they were pointing pigeons. They were described by their new owners, who have had a lot of working gundog pups, as quite simply the best quality pups that they had ever had.

Future Breeding Plans
In 2004 we are planning to bring in an Irish Setter bitch whom we will put to International Field Trial Champion Lusca Finn, when she is old enough, probably in 2006/07. However prior to that we intend to take a second litter from Field Trial Champion Molly Iken, probably in 2005 and a litter from Ardoon Oonagh the following year.
